FAQ's telenable digital fax cellular ambulance paramedic lifepack Zoll SRP FDM SRI EMS EMT Physio Techegis cardiac SRI/e 12-lead |
Frequently asked questions about TelEnable and EMS-Enable Q. What is the difference between EMS-Enable and TelEnable? A. The EMS-Enable product line is part of the TelEnable family, but designed and tested specifically for the pre-hospital providers. The product has received FDA 510k clearance. Q. Why would we want to send a 12-lead fax page to the ER? The doctor just throws it away now! A. As you probably know, often things change slowly in the EMS and Fire service. The Emergency Room Doctors have been accustomed to receiving poor quality ECG faxes that came over the old analog cell phones. Many times they were unreadable. Sometimes they received half a page, many times they received nothing. Realistically, they did not have much to work with. The EMS-Enable system provides a diagnostic quality 12 lead fax page every time! With this information the Emergency Room Doctor can make the decision to scrub in the Cardiac Cath Lab much earlier and justify the expense. They do not have to take the Paramedics word that the patient has a life threatening ECG abnormality. This relieves the paramedic of possibility of potentially making an incorrect diagnosis in the field. Q. Do EMS-Enable products work with digital phones? A. Yes. These products have been designed to send and receive faxes from mobile units over most digital phone systems. Both the portable battery-powered Orange Box and the fixed installation FDM offer an option for an embedded GSM or CDMA cellular phone Q. What monitors work with EMS-Enable products? A. The EMS-Enable products will work with any monitor that supports the ITU standard fax formats. (Medtronics, MRL, Welch Allyn, Zoll, etc.) Q. Do you need a server for the system? A. Yes, there must be a server somewhere in the system. The mobile and portable EMS-Enable boxes communicate with the server. The server receives the incoming fax and prints the fax on the attached local laser printer. It also has the capability of forwarding the fax to an analog fax machine at some other specified location. The server will also receive and print on the attached laser printer faxes received from other sources, though with standard fax image quality. Q. Why would you want a battery powered Orange Box vs. a permanently mounted one? A. Many EMS organizations treat the patient where they lie. They take invasive action where the patient is. The portable Orange Box this provides the capability to send the ECG fax directly to the Emergency Room much faster than waiting until the patient is loaded into the ambulance for transport. This allows the Doctors to prepare the Cardiac Cath Lab for emergency surgery in advance of the patient’s arrival. The portable unit also is vital in instances where the patient is trapped in a wreck or machinery. The fixed installation unit (FDM) is typically configured with a roof-top antenna allowing for improved reception of the cellular system’s signal. This can be important in areas of poor cellular system coverage. Both the portable battery-powered Orange Box and the fixed installation FDM offer an option for an embedded GSM or CDMA cellular phone. Q. What training is involved with the EMS-Enable system? A. Extensive training for the Paramedic or EMT is not required. Typically, a class lasting approximately 30 minutes provides the user with sufficient information to transmit a 12-lead fax from the heart monitor. Training should provide an opportunity to familiarize them with the heart monitor fax set-up procedure. Q. What other applications do the TelEnable modules have? A. The TelEnable family includes both the EMS-Enable and FaxEnable product lines. FaxEnable units are similar to those products in the EMS-Enable family. They offer the same capabilities as the EMS-Enable units, though they have not submitted for FDA 510k approval. The FaxEnable product line is perfect for the transportation and construction industries. Whether on the construction site or in trucks, trains, or ships, the FaxEnable family of products provides a fast and efficient method to transmit documents such as construction plans and changes or Bill of Lading to a central office.
